Dust vs. Orbs - The Paranormal Debate
There are many different theories on what exactly an "Orb" realy is. An Orb is defined as a ball of energy caught in a photograph or video. There are the two easiest ways to identify the difference between a true Orb and a piece of dust. First is that Orbs will emitt there own light where as dust will simply reflect the light from a flash or Infrared Light. Second the flight pattern of the Orb or dust, typically dust has more of a snowing type of effect. It flutters downword with no particular pattern, however there is exceptions to this for example if there is a fan on or window open even the gentle
The picture above has outlined examples of the typical apearence of Dust. Notice that they in fact are not glowing at all but rather just reflecting the light from the cameras flash. There is also a third one by the large pole in the center that i didn't happen to notice till i already posted this.

Orbs on the other hand have no typical pattern, they can move in most any direction at variable speeds. Orbs are considered by some to be the attempted manifestation of the spirit wich is why it is believed that they have some sort of intelligence.
But on the other hand others believe that its not a manifestation or spirit at all. Rather that it is the build up of energy transfer from such things as people, batteries, power lines and such. The spirit then uses the energy to attempt to manifest itself, but its also not certain whether or not the spirit uses the energy consiously or if its just a natural occurance. This theory also would explain the shape since according to the law of physics energy transfered in that manner would assume a natural shape of the sphere.

While Nothing is conclusive as of yet and might never be in this field you must be very, very careful when making claims and showing evidence. The wrong claim or bad evidence can severely damage your reputation and credibility. Thats why after much discussion of such issues we at U.A.N.P.I. have decided that even though we do feel that Obs play some kind of a role in the Paranormal we also feel that there is to many groups trying to pass these off as evidence. While we have our skeptisism about Orbs there is also enough evidence to warrant further research, we are not saying that they are Paranormal we are also not saying their not...
As a whole we have since decided to still post the Orb pictures that we do capture for the viewing of others. But we will no longer be placing such pictures or videos in with the true evidence in the case files. Rather we will be placing them on a seperate page accessible in thepics section and also linked at the bottom of this page. As we stated above many other groups try to pass these off as hard evidence when in fact they are not, cool looking they may be but definetly not rock solid proof and we will be treating them as such.
