Up All Night Paranormal Investigations

"Ghostbox"

The Ghostbox origins began with what is known as the "Frank's box" created by Frank Sumption. Its a radio like box that produces random voltage to create raw audio from an AM tuner, the raw audio is then fed into an echo chamber where it is amplified and recorded. The box creates its own white noise that it is believed spirits or ghosts can manipulate and use to form words allowing for communication.

A more recent take off of this has been become what is known by most to be called "The Radio Shack Hack"There are several different styles of these standard AM/FM radios that you can buy at most any Radio Shack and then with a slight modification be used like a

The radio that we have chosen is the Radio Shack Model #12-588, this particular radio was first modified by Paranormal Investigator Steve Hultay founder of Keyport Paranormal and as such has become known as "The Hultay Hack".  This modification clips the wire that locks it onto a station when scanning, making it so that it will just keep scanning when the scan button is pressed. This effectively gives it the white noise needed and also picks up tiny snippets of audio from any active AM/FM stations that its thought can be manipulated by spirits or ghost.

Our take: although it is a nice idea and we have realy only tried it out on one investigation we are just not sold. The fact that you constantly hear talking and music snippets from the stations as it cycles through the scan makes us very leary of this. If it could be further modified to eliminate the AM/FM feeds allowing for only white noise we would be more sold. Its just very hard to make any kind of claim of voices or anything with that much interfearence. We will continue to work with this thing and we are thinking about buying a second and attempting to modify it further to make it white noise only. But all in all its not a lot of money around $50, maybe with further investigation we might change our minds but at this point we would have a realy hard time using any evidence captured off of this. We are not saying that it doesn't work, this is just simply our thoughts on this...
